Three of Cups / The Wells of Yggdrasil 8x10" Fine Art Print

from $35.00

About The Print:

This folkloric print, the second in a set of three, shares the story of Odin’s sacrifice for the knowledge of the runes and runic magic (galdr), as told within the Poetic and Prose Eddas, and reshapes it through the lens of tarot and queer archaeology.

In the Poetic and Prose Eddas, three wells at the base of Yggdrasil are mentioned: Urðarbrunnr, the well of Fate; Mímisbrunnr, the well of Wisdom; and Hvergelmir, the bubbling/boiling spring. Each well played a significant role in shaping Odin and/or the Nine Realms within the Norse cosmos. Most significant are Urðarbrunnr and for it is the home of the Norns and the dwelling of the runes; and Mímisbrunnr, for it is where he sacrificed his eye to Mimir for the right to drink from the well and gain divine wisdom.

Traditionally, The Three of Cups represents reunion, celebration, creativity, and collaboration. It can represent groups coming together to focus on a common emotional goal. Individually, it can indicate that the energy put forth toward a goal will be positive. It is a card of immense happiness and success.

What guaranteed Odin’s success in his divine quest? The forgotten collaborations between himself and the Norse cosmos, as well as his commitment to sharing the knowledge he earned. Odin did not seek knowledge for knowledge’s sake, but sought it out for its ability to transform him and those around him.
